What 29lbs of gear and food looks like

Bill is headed up to Amicola State Park today which is the closest point to the AT that can be reached by car. Unfortunately his ride couldn't leave until 3pm and so he will have to camp at the state park tonight. From there he will have to hike 10 miles or so to reach the start of the trail at Springer Mountain, GA.
He is carrying a little more than a five day supply of food, and I should hopefully hear from him again by Wednesday.

The Plan

On April 5th I'll be taking a plane to Augusta, Ga.  From there a friend will drive me to the Chattahoochee National Forest.  Since the AT starts at the top of Springer Mountain, an 8-10 mile hike is required from the nearest road.  I should be on this approach trail Friday, and ready to officially start the nearly 2200 mile journey on the morning of Sat April 7th.

The first week will start off very slowly as I get back into hiking shape and get re-accustomed to living in the woods.  This week will probably consist of only 80 trail miles (miles off trail to resupply, camp, or find water don't count in the mileage).  Once I'm in the swing of things the weekly mileage should be up toward 100-110 miles per week.

There'll be a quick stop Memorial Day weekend to attend Jess' wedding, and most likely another stop in Jersey later on.  I'll be resupplying food and any broken gear in town near the many roads the trail crosses.  Some of these towns can be quite a distance off trail, but at the very least there'll be a gas station resupply every 4-7 days.

Its essential to be at Mt. Katahdin in Maine before mid October because of excessive snowfall.   A more detailed schedule will follow, and again, big thanks to everyone who helped out.
